Pick Your Material

What goes under your car matters more in New Hampshire than almost anywhere else. Road salt, freeze-thaw cycles, and 30,000+ winter miles a year separate aluminized from stainless from one-off mandrel work. Here’s how to choose.

Aluminized Steel

Daily-Driver Value

The OEM standard. Affordable, quiet, and great for vehicles that spend their winters in a garage or south of the salt belt.

Real Work

From Our Bay to Your Driveway.

Every system on this page is built by hand in our Derry, NH shop. No drop-shipped kits, no off-the-rack hangers, no “close enough” welds. Here’s a quick look at what that means in practice.

In the bay

Mandrel-Bent. TIG-Welded.

Every joint is full-penetration TIG, every bend is mandrel-formed for zero flow restriction. No clamps where welds belong.

Fitted, Polished, Inspection-Ready.

Custom routing, polished tips, and a road-test before you get the keys. Built for New Hampshire winters and New Hampshire inspections.

How We Build

From Driveway to Drive-Off

No surprises, no hidden fees. Every Avid build follows the same four-stage process — from the first measurement to the final road-test.

01

Consult & Measure

We talk goals — sound, performance, longevity, budget — then put your vehicle on a lift, photograph the existing routing, and confirm clearances. You leave with a written estimate, not a guess.

Free Consultation Goal-First Written Estimate
02

Material & Spec

We size pipe diameter to your engine’s flow, choose between aluminized and stainless, and dial in muffler and resonator selection until the sound profile matches what you described.

Pipe Sizing Tone Tuning Material Selection
03

Fabricate & Weld

Mandrel-bent cuts, TIG-welded full-penetration joints, vibration-isolation hangers, and slip-fit clamps where service makes sense. Every weld is inspected before the system goes back under the car.

04

Install & Road-Test

Fresh gaskets and clamps, cold and hot leak checks, then a real road-test on highway and back roads to listen for drone, rattles, and harmonics. You drive away with a system tuned by ear, not just on paper.

Finish-Grade Exhaust Work

Where Exhaust Meets Detailing.

Most exhaust shops install the system and call it done. We’re a detailing studio first — which means your tips don’t leave the bay until they’re finished to the same standard as your paint.

Tarnished, blued, road-grimed stainless tips get a multi-stage polish that brings them back to a mirror. Then, if you want it locked in, we’ll layer on a high-temp ceramic coating so they shrug off heat, salt, and brake-dust for years.

  • Multi-stage polish — coarse compound through finishing wax, no shortcuts.
  • Heat-discoloration removal — bluing and rainbow tarnish cleared without scuffing the metal.
  • Optional ceramic tip coating — the same chemistry we put on paint, rated for exhaust temps.
  • Paint-safe handling — bumper and rear quarter taped and protected during the entire job.

Diagnose By Ear

Hear It Yet? We Can Fix It.

Tap whichever symptom sounds familiar — we’ll tell you what it usually is and how we’d sort it. No guesswork, no upsell.

Loud rumble
Likely a leak before the muffler

Cracked manifold, blown gasket, or a rotted mid-pipe. We’ll trace the leak, repair or replace the section, and confirm it’s sealed before delivery.

Hissing or ticking
Small leak under pressure

Almost always a flange gasket, donut, or a hairline crack at a weld. Quick to find with a smoke test, quick to fix with new gaskets.

Rattle over bumps
Broken hanger or loose heat shield

Rubber hangers stretch and snap, heat shields rust at the spot welds. Both are inexpensive fixes — the rattle disappears with new isolators.

Drone at highway speed
Tunable with the right resonator

Drone is a resonance, not a defect. We tune it out by re-locating or upgrading the resonator and adjusting muffler chamber geometry.

Rotten-egg smell
Catalytic converter is failing

Sulfur smell means the cat is sintering or contaminated. Direct-fit replacement, sensor check, and a quick OBD scan to confirm.

P0420 / O2 code
Cat efficiency below threshold

Could be the cat itself, or a lazy downstream O2 sensor. We confirm with live data, then replace only what’s actually failed.

Visible rust on pipe
Section replacement — or upgrade time

If it’s a single section, we splice in mandrel-bent stainless. If it’s everywhere, full stainless system pays for itself in NH’s salt belt.

Failed emissions / OBD-II
Diagnose, then repair to code

We pull the exact codes, isolate the failed component (cat, sensor, or leak), and put it right so the next inspection is a pass.

Want louder tone
Axle-back, cat-back, or X-pipe

We listen to your car at idle and at WOT, then build up from the quietest mod that hits your target tone — without crossing into illegal volume.

Want quieter tone
Resonator + chambered muffler

Most “too loud” complaints solve with one extra resonator and a properly-sized chambered muffler. Cabin gets back to highway-conversation level.

Got Questions?

Frequently Asked

Everything we get asked most often about timeline, NH inspection compliance, sound, and the difference between a section repair and a full system.

How long does a custom exhaust build take?
A bolt-on cat-back or axle-back install is usually a half-day in the bay. A full custom fabrication with mandrel-bent stainless, TIG welds, and a road-test pass typically takes one to two business days depending on routing complexity and parts availability.
Will my custom exhaust still pass NH inspection and emissions?
Yes — when built correctly. We retain the catalytic converter, keep all OBD-compatible oxygen sensors in place, and design every system to satisfy New Hampshire’s annual safety and OBD-II inspection. We do not build cat-deletes or test-pipe setups for street vehicles.
What are the legal sound limits for exhaust in New Hampshire?
New Hampshire law requires every motor vehicle to be equipped with a working muffler and prohibits exhaust modifications that amplify sound beyond what the original equipment produced. Our builds are tuned to be noticeable but never obnoxious — louder under throttle, civil at cruise, and inspection-friendly.
Can I just fix one rusted section, or do I need a full system?
Either works. If a single mid-pipe or muffler section has rotted out, we can fabricate and weld in a targeted patch using mandrel-bent stainless. If multiple sections show heavy corrosion, a full system in stainless is usually a better long-term value — especially in New Hampshire’s road-salt climate.
Can I get a louder tone without highway drone?
Yes. Drone is the resonance you hear at cruise — usually between 1,800 and 2,800 RPM. We tune it out with the right combination of resonator placement, muffler chamber design, and pipe diameter. The result is a deeper, more aggressive note under load with a quiet, livable cabin at highway speed.
Do you offer a warranty on welds and installation?
Every fabrication and installation we perform carries a 12-month workmanship warranty covering welds, hangers, and clamps. Manufacturer warranties on cat-backs, mufflers, and converters pass through to you per the brand’s terms (typically 1–3 years on parts).
